WOOD & Company acquires BEST-EKO and enters the Polish waste management market

WOOD & Company, through WOOD & Company Waste Management Fund, is acquiring a 90% majority stake in the Polish company BEST-EKO Sp. z oo, which specialises in bio-waste processing, compost production and wastewater treatment in the Silesia region of Poland and has a turnover of almost PLN 40 million. WOOD & Company Waste Management Fund in Slovakia owns the KOSIT Group, one of the leading providers of waste management services in Slovakia.

BEST-EKO was represented in this transaction by our Partners in Poland, JP Weber.

"In 2025, the turnover of the KOSIT group in Slovakia will reach 100 million EUR. We want to achieve further growth through investments in modern technologies. For us, entering the Polish market is fulfilling our vision of being a successful Central European player. BEST-EKO, which has become part of the KOSIT group, is a leader in the field of bio-waste recovery and annually processes more than 100,000 tons of biodegradable waste to produce the highest quality compost.

BEST-EKO is located in Rybnik, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. The new owner will cooperate with the original shareholder, Grzegorz Pilarski, who will retain a 10% stake in the company, in further management and development of the company. The new CEO of the company is Oľga Gesiarz Kalinowska, with over 20 years of experience in waste management.

"The entry of WOOD & Company as a strong investment partner into BEST-EKO is an important milestone for its further development. We want to make the most of the synergistic effects of both companies. At the same time, I would like to thank our transaction advisors, JP Weber for ensuring a highly competitive process, as well as our legal advisors from the Kancelaria Radcy Prawnego Katarzyna Słupska office," says Grzegorz Pilarski.

"Thanks to the use of modern technologies and innovative procedures, BEST-EKO ensures almost 100% recycling of input waste, thereby significantly contributing to reducing landfill and greening waste management in the region. I believe that this will be a successful investment for WOOD & Company," says Olga Gesiarz Kalinowska.

For WOOD & Company Waste Management Fund, this is a fundamental step within the planned strategy of international expansion and investments in modern technologies in the waste management sector. "The acquisition of BEST-EKO means for us not only entry into a new foreign market, but also an investment in modern and green waste recycling technology, which underlines our strategy of building a sustainable and integrated group with a significant position in waste management in the Central and Eastern European region," adds Martin Šmigura, Local Partner of WOOD & Company in Slovakia.

The KOSIT group of companies provides waste management and recovery services for the municipal sector and comprehensive services for customers from the industrial and commercial sectors. In addition to the waste-to-energy facility (ZEVO) in Košice and a biogas plant for recycling biological waste, the KOSIT group operates several end-of-life facilities in Slovakia and employs more than 1,300 employees.
