Ong Sheng Jie
Sheng Jie (“”SJ””) has over 10 years of investment banking experience notably specializing in Project Finance Advisory, Infrastructure Advisory, Public-Private Partnership (“PPP”) and Private Financing Initiatives (“PFIs”) transactions. To date, has advised and achieved financial close for transactions valuing a total of RM10.0bil namely for transactions involved in financial advisory, capital raising i.e debt capital market as well as debt restructuring.
SJ started his career as a Senior Analyst with Ernst and Young Advisory Services Sdn Bhd in the Performance Improvement department. He had 2 years’ experience in leading and supporting various project work streams in terms of key strategies and operational functions.
Thereafter, he commenced his Project Finance Advisory career with Maybank Investment Bank, in the Strategic Advisory Department (also known as Bina Fikir Sdn Bhd). During this tenure, SJ advised and achieved financial close for several PPP/PFI and Infrastructure (Energy and Utilities) related projects including financial adviser for the proposed development and fundraising for a regional power sector fund, with the focus on renewable energy assets and assets <200MW, financial adviser for the development of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sarawak, East Malaysia, a financial adviser for the development, construction and operation of Malaysia’s Cyber Security facility, on a PPP/PFI basis, financial adviser debt restructuring of an existing privatised highway and its subsequent Sukuk Issuance debt refinancing exercise and financial adviser for the development of Malaysia’s first education hub comprising 4 universities, developed on a PPP/PFI basis.
SJ then moved on to head the Project Finance and Debt Capital Market team in a Securities Commission (Malaysia) and Ministry of Finance (Malaysia) licensed boutique corporate finance advisory firm where he is involved in the origination, strategic advisory, deal execution i.e structuring, contract review, negotiation and managing various stakeholders, fund-raising (via Sukuk and/or Equity Investments) for both Senior and Junior/Mezzanine levels. His key goal is to ensure the transaction achieves Financial Close with terms that are both favourable to the Client and ‘bankable’ in the view of the lenders and/or investors. Key sectors covered include Water, Infrastructure, Power (Renewable Energy), and Development.
SJ is focused on the South East Asian region notably for corporate finance advisory activities notwithstanding scopes such as project finance advisory, mergers & acquisitions, debt capital market advisory, capital raising notably in Malaysia, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand.
