Niels Buus

Niels Buus is a seasoned leader and strategist in the Defense and Space sector, with over 35 years of experience in driving innovation, growth, and transformation for various organizations. He is the Owner and CEO of Longbus Innovation, a company that provides management consulting, coaching, and strategic advice for private and public organizations in the areas of Space, Defense, Innovation, and Technology.

Niels has a proven track record of delivering results and creating value for his clients and stakeholders. He was the Chairman and then CEO of GomSpace, a leading provider of nanosatellite solutions, from 2007 to 2023, where he led the company’s expansion by more than 20 times and successfully listed it in an IPO in 2016. During that tenure he was in 2017 awarded Leader of the year in Danmark. Prior to that, he was the CEO of GateHouse, a leading supplier of software protocol stacks for Inmarsat, where he grew the company from 15 to 100 people within five years, earning him the regional “Entrepreneur of the Year” award twice. He also served as Vice President for the Radar Division at Terma A/S, where he orchestrated a substantial turnaround that positioned the business as a global leader in vessel traffic and surface movement radars.

Niels holds a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from Aalborg University, a Master of Science in applied optics from Imperial College London, and a Sloan Fellowship Master in Management from London Business School. He is also a Certified Board Chairman and a graduate of the IHEDN l’Institut des hautes études de défense nationale. Niels is passionate about advancing the Defense and Space industry and fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and collaboration.

Chartered Accountant. Joined Rickitt Mitchell in 2004, after four years at PwC and previously at GlaxoSmithKline. Advised on deals from £10m to £150m. Significant experience in buy-side, sell-side, private equity, and IPO mandates across many sectors.
