Armillary assisted the founder of SmartPayroll, a SaaS company providing payroll services to the SME market.

With a number of complex restraints at play regarding the company’s technology and exit options, a discreet and highly targeted process was required; the highest value buyer was ultimately the company’s other shareholders, led by Datacom.

SmartPayroll has since relaunched as Smartly and introduced more functionality for employees and managers, including more advanced leave management, time sheeting, and labour costing.

Being owned by Datacom allows Smartly to leverage its strengths in legislative compliance, data security, and software development to give its customers confidence that their payroll is accurate, secure, and supported by one of the best IT businesses in New Zealand.

Armillary is an award-winning boutique investment banking firm, independent since 2008, and adopted the Armillary name in 2009. The name derives from the armillary sphere the Greeks used to solve astronomical problems. It is a fitting metaphor for what they do as a business, navigating through sometimes dark and stormy waters.
